about

The recorded debut from Tender Crust - consisting of Full Spectrum Records’ Gretchen Korsmo, Carl Ritger, and Andrew Weathers - comes out of the gate swinging with a hair-raising sonic onslaught. A harmonica (or some approximation thereof) beats the battle cry, a crusty drum machine creaks to life, and a sparkling synthesizer runs freely across the stereo field. From there the chemicals start to kick in, and the trio dives deep into the history of free music and electronic improvisation, emerging with a potent sound that can only be described oxymoronically as Americana-Kraut. At once loose and laser-focused, “The Earth’s Axis and Hare” is a beautiful, bracing distillation of the best parts of the American experimental underground.
