about

Over the last decade, Kyle Landstra and Dominic Coppola have each mined the depths of their respective practices deeper than most, with impressive and expansive results. Landstra’s longform synth mastery has taken him from Michigan to Chicago to Portland, with releases on Unifactor, Muzan Editions, and Inner Islands, while Coppola’s processed loop soundscapes have traveled from his home in Michigan to the rest of the world via Alien Passengers, Moon Mist Music, and his own Boudoir imprint.

Here on Oxtail Recordings is where their paths cross: a split release that emphasizes in-betweeness and ephemerality in the most classic ways - morning and evening, light and dark, intimacy and distance. Landstra presents “Earlier In the Morning,” a pensive, floating side that evokes a predawn glow, dew on the grass, the calm before the storm of a new day. Coppola matches the mood with “Later in the Evening,” an anthem for the end of the day, focusing inward, and re-centering. It’s refreshing to see work that foregrounds the transitions: these tracks posit no solutions and have no endgame, and instead invite the listener to focus on the present and the process.

It’s no surprise then that in doing so, they’ve each created bodies of work both deep and wide. Oxtail Recordings is stoked to work with them to contribute a drop to each of their respective zoned sonic oceans.
