about

The third album in Maharadja Sweets' Orange Milky Way series further depicts the strange horrible world our heroes Pon-gee and Poo-gee land upon in their rocket ship. The focus in this installment is a radio broadcast of electronic folk music recorded by the fierce battling denizens of this scorching desert planet.

Pre-dawn mists give way to sun-god howls, frenetic Dionysian dance, Hydra-headed machines, and solar winds and chemical fires cascading across the plains. Some pieces evoke Taureg rock bands hacked into vacuum cleaners and car parts instead of guitars. Others bring to mind late-period John Coltrane if he was born as an alien and hunted junkyards for playable circuit boards, jet engines, and other electric rubbish to satisfy his holy muse.

A further exploration of Maharadja's inner via depictions of the outer - there's a lot of harshness and turmoil on this one - but it ends with a heartbreaking lilting pop elegy and a spoken word poem about our favorite eternal weepy ones lamenting the fundamental existential nature of things and... carrying on.
