Oxtail label head Mike Nigro peeks out from behind the curtain with the gentle, curious “Argyle Place Park” EP. Layering digital sheen and uncanny processing over field recordings of an unassuming greenspace in Sydney’s Millers Point, the track celebrates the magic of everyday moments when the light hits just right and the mundane gives you goosebumps.

Casual as the final product may seem, it had quite a troubled gestation over nearly a year, with multiple versions and revisions left on the cutting room floor. To compliment the final result and pay homage to the creative journey, we also have the “Skyscraper Mix,” inspired by the massive presence of nearby Argyle Cut, and the “Bug Jazz Mix” which finds a bandstand between the blades of grass.

Very atmospheric piece of work. Google tells me Arktika is the name of a Russian ice breaker and this music does conjure up a slow moving behemoth ploughing it's way through a frozen landscape. I would say if you like Vangelis this would appeal Anthony Davies
